The "Art of Drawing" course is to follow on from a previous course at OSO Arts Centre known as "Drawing from Scratch." This course encourages you to explore new ways of drawing, and improve existing skills. Various techniques and approaches will be looked at in detail and suitable exercises will be offered. The course will benefit students some previous experience who wish to practice and develop their skills in a friendly and supportive environment. (Examples of past and previous students drawings can be viewed from the "Courses and Bookings" homepage, by clicking the link immediately above the OSO Classes category.)
The course will emphasize developing the ability to observe more deeply, and to translate what you see into an artistic image. You will draw a variety of 3D objects, scenes and figures throughout the course.
Media used may include pencils, graphite, charcoal, pastel, crayons, chalk, ink, pens & coloured pencils. We will look at various techniques to extend your mark-making ability, to use light and shade effectively to create the appearance of solid objects in space. You will learn ways to suggest textures as well as composition, form, proportion and perspective.
Teaching methods include: practical demonstrations, hands on exercises, group discussion, keeping a sketchbook and practicing between sessions, looking at the work of inspirational artists within an art history context, formal instruction, individual feedback, personal learning reflections and a group evaluation discussion at the end of each session.
Tutor and students assess progress verbally on an individual basis and ample time isallocated to address your questions.
